King’s Grove School

The KGS Approach

King’s Grove School offers a classical, Christian education for students with special needs to provide a model for linear thinking in all areas of life. We do this with glorifying God in all we do as the foundation of all of our efforts.

We integrate three pillars of education into our school day with:

Curriculum

KGS uses the Simply Classical Curriculum which seeks to bring educational nourishment to students who may need modifications, yet whose humanity begs for the common truth, goodness, and beauty needed by all.

Therapy

KGS integrates the disciplines of Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Speech Therapy into the daily work, schedule and rigor of every student.

As the curriculum at KGS creates continuity throughout subjects for better understanding and mastery, therapies are used to prepare the mind for learning and are integrated into all subjects, social time and group settings.

This approach provides continual opportunities for mastery in areas such as fine and gross motor skills, speech, cognitive and executive functioning, life skills and self regulation within varied settings throughout the day that will be used in the student’s daily life in and outside of school.

Community

KGS encourages community:

  • For our student body in peer to peer learning settings, mentorship and friendship opportunities.

  • For our families as an avenue to fellowship and walk alongside one another as they navigate the world of special needs.

  • For our greater community to engage and form relationships with our students and their families.

We do all of this in a setting that is simple and calm.  KGS embraces the outdoors and creation as frequently as our days will allow. We understand that nature (sunlight, fresh air, the colors and textures of trees, grass and plants) provides the sensory input we all need to focus our minds and calm our spirit.

In all of our programs we strive for continuity and mastery learning to the best of a student’s ability with understanding that mastery of a concept will look different from one student to another based on their strengths in the classroom and physical abilities.

Modified School Week

KGS modifies the academic school week to give ample time for each student to continue valuable family time at home and with an understanding that a typical school day is, at times, too lengthy for optimal learning and a student’s physical endurance.

Our academic week is Monday - Thursday from the hours of 9:00am - 2:30 pm.
Fridays are Enrichment Days and are the hours of 9:00 am - 12:30 pm.

KGS feels these are the optimal hours of learning and best suits the needs of an alternative learning student.
